Tasmanian forests are home to endangered native species, many are killed with 1080 poison in the logging process
THE CASE

Forests and Free Speech (the treedomfighters) is a community organisation formed in response to the civil lawsuit issued by Gunns Ltd in Dec 2004 against 16 individuals and 3 organisations. It works with The Wilderness Society (the 6th Defendant) and other defendants, supporting those being sued and advocating for law reform to protect the community’s right to public participation.

Central to their concerns are issues that relate to all sectors of the Australian community who may need to speak out against corporate activities during their working or personal lives.

  • Freedom of speech and democratic process
  • The right to peaceful protest
  • Corporate governance
  • Opportunities for legislative reform
  • The importance of Tasmania's forests
  • Determined not to be silenced, the dedicated forest campaigners to be sued by Gunns are taking the issues raised by this lawsuit on the road, to the rest of Australia and overseas.
